You Aren’t Here

I am in your space. The place you dreamed of and planned for, but you aren’t here. Your time here was short for all the hopes you had. I look around and see you everywhere, but yet, you are not here.

I imagine where you would be sitting as you watched TV. I look at the glass the contains my water and see your hand wrapped around it in such a familiar way. But you are not here.

The last time I saw you, I talked to you. Did you hear me? I did my best to love you to the very end. And then your breathing just stopped. Quietly with no announcement that it was over. And just like a faint whisper disappears into the air, you were no longer here.

So, tonight I feel empty and selfish knowing how much this chair I am sitting in is exactly what you dreamed of. I see your artwork hanging on the wall and your treasures displayed proudly for everyone to see. But you are not here.

I am here, but you are not. And I miss you.
